Skitter Prop
Tip:
When reeling back a Skitter Prop remember to follow these steps reel, reel, twitch, jerk, reel, reel, twitch, jerk, reel, reel, twitch, jerk. and you're sure to catch Bass.

Off The Lake Bottom.
Tip:
In a lake with little or no bottom cover, try drifiting with a night crawler on a simple hook and line, with a 1/2 oz. or so weight. The action of the boat and waves generally produces a "hopping" action of the bottom, expect a hit on the drop or when the worm settles down back to the bottom. This works good too if you don't have a fish finder.

Mepps Pays Hunters For Squirrel Tails
Tip:
Are you a hunter? Do much Squirrel hunting? Save those tails because Mepps lure company will pay up to 26 cents a tail. If you want to trade tails for lures Mepps will double their value. Not bad deal for something we used to throw away.

Spawning Bass
Tip:
When you can't get them big momma's to bite in shallow water, try this. Use light weight monofilament line, the thinner it is the more it disappears. A good 3/0 hook, and a pearl fluke. Cast past the spawning bass and give slight jerks to replicate a dying minnow. Go slow and work your way to the front of the bass, then let the fluke drop to the bottom and start twitching the fluke lightly and periodically. The Bass will get angry and smoke it!!!!

A Rarely Used Catfish Bait
Tip:
One of the top catfish attractants is peanut butter. Wrap a spoonful of it in cheesecloth or a small piece of panty hose and stick it on a small treble hook. Cast, sit back and watch the Cats get it stuck to the roof of their mouths.

Using Braided Line
Tip:
If you are new to fishing with todays new braided super lines, you need to remeber some very important factors. Despite popular belief these lines will not cut into your guides ruining your rods. Braided line does not absorb water and is not effected by the suns UV rays therefore it practically last forever which can justify why it is so expensive. But the most important fact to remember is that it does NOT stretch at all so when you set your hook you dont have to drive it home so to say as you do with your normal mono line. If you do, not only will you rip the hook right out of the fishes mouth but you could snap your rod.

Where Are The Huge Trout?
Tip:
We've all seen those public streams that are beaten down with paths. The waters look appealing, but all you ever catch are trout that hardly meet 'keeper' requirements. So, where do those big ones come from you only see at the taxidermy shop? Simply put, go where there are no paths, maybe farther down stream, into the thick cover that is not easily negotiated. Prepare for a lot of snags, and expect to have to cut your line at times, cheap price for a trophy. The big trout are where nobody goes, seems like simple math really, but most fishermen go where its tidy, and they can cast easily. Think opposite of that. Go into that thicket that is going to give you some scrapes, and looks like you couldn't cast in if your life depended on it. Live bait is preferred in the thick, little easier to deal with, but you can use something like ice fishing jigs, super dupers, or swedish pimple. (those lures have action while they drop, no need to retrieve) So, go into those thickets, lose some hooks, lose some lures, but when you catch that big one out of there, I guarantee you won't miss your lost lure ;)

Making Your Own Buoys
Tip:
To make your own Buoy's, take a plastic water bottle, half gallon or bigger. Leave the lid off for a day or two, allowing any moisture in the bottle to evaporate. Using a bright color spay paint, spray the bottle interior, through the neck. Allow to dry, and apply a second coat. Using a small eye screw into the lid and super glue it so that it will not come loose. Using some nylon string, attached a nut to the other end. Test the weight before using out on the lake to make sure it is not too heavy. The best part of the whole thing was that I used all the parts that I had lying around the house. So that made the cost zero, even I you had to buy the parts, it would still be cheap to build.

Preventing The Dreaded Baitcaster Thumb.
Tip:
Most anglers who use a Baitcaster reel sooner or later will develop line burn on their thumb. Try buying a leather thimble at a craft store. They hold up very well and will deter the formation of the Dreaded Baitcaster Thumb. Another choice is sports tape. Slightly tacky at first, but sports tape will "set" quickly forming long lasting thumb protection.

Northern Pike Fishing Tips
Tip:
Northern pike are insatiable feeders and will take just about every kind of live and artificial bait. You can even use chubs and shiners. The lures I especialy like are bucktail spinners, crankbaits and topwater lures for casting. Northern pike love to lurk in heavy vegetation. You will find them in shallow weedy areas in Spring and Summer then in the Fall the fish move to deeper areas. And the number 1 Tip for novice anglers. .. .. Be careful when removing a hook, pike have teeth as sharp as razorblades!!!!!
