Eagle at "J" Lake
|
Shrimp on salmon egg hook, Mepps thunder bug, and one of those "wedding ring" spinners
Report:
The night started with a big idea - we drove up to weasel lake down past Donnely Dome - the 100 yard hike to lake looked like more than my wife wanted to attempt so we drove back to the Ft. Greely Lakes. Second attempt to fish landed us at "J" lake - no luck but the little guys (arctic grayling perhaps?) were popping - a bald eagle was fishing too - all and all not a bad day so far. So we motored on down the road to Chet lake and it got wild. The 12" - 14" male rainbows would not leave the shrimp alone. Some of the fish really took the hook deep so I switched to the Mepps thunder bug to limit the injury to the fish. It was wild, you hear stories of catching a fish on your first cast but it's always fun when it happens to you. Since it was late we left, but I want to come back get a grayling or char soon.
