Report:
Well, the day started early. The alarm went off at 2:30a. I hopped in the shower to try and wake up a bit. Luckily I had packed the car Saturday night so I hopped in and headed to Eric's house. We met up with 3 other boats at the highway at 3:30a. And the convoy was off. Raccoon is about an hour and a half from Indy, but obviously there was little traffic so we made good time. As soon as we hit the ramp the fishing chatter started, and the BS flying. We got the paperwork together and went over the rules. 16" Minimum for Raccoon. 2p weigh at the ramp. 4 Fish. Go get em. Off we went. The high ended up being 58 about 1:30p so you can imagine the ride across the lake at what seemed to be mach speed at 6a. We stopped in a nice finger off the main lake and Eric said to throw cranks. I had an Ambush Rattl'n Diver (Oklahoma craw) so I started chucking. 3rd cast. I had one on. 15 1/2". Throw it back, but what a good sign. They were on. We fished for a while longer in this spot, but nothing else. Another competitor was close. I saw him lift one into the boat, and toss it in the livewell. I was losing already, it was barely 6:30a. Now this is why I love to tournament fish. Well, the going got tough. The clouds rolled in. The wind kicked up. And the fish shut off. Final run down. Lots of <16" fish caught. 4 out of 10 guys weighed fish. 1st place was 3 fish 8.71 lbs with a 3 1/2 pounder for larger fish honors also. Second was 2 fish. Third was one. And the fourth guy had only one. 7 total fished weighed. It was a long hard day. But I really enjoyed myself and can't wait to do it again. -- Brian James
