MATTERN GUIDE SERVICE
Hello Everybody,
Fishing is great and water is in good shape all over the Lake except in the upper Neches. Surrounding pockets even in the North end are in great shape. Bass were caught up to about 8.1 lbs. in the last week with many fish in the 3-4 lb. range. Fish are hitting texas rigged craws and worms in black neons and black and blues worked around grass or stump or wood cover.
Bass have just about finished their spawn on Lake Palestine with a few buck bass protecting Bass fry. Females have pulled back a little like pre-spawn on points and are feeding in the same areas they have spawned in. Deeper fish around boathouses are hitting and carolina-riged baits are producing on main Lake points and channels.
Soft jerk baits worked early and late are producing in most colors like watermelons, junebugs, chartruses, and white pepper. Go deeper durring the midday bite.
Catfish are hitting worms, shrimp and cutbait along channels and rocks.Anywhere from the rocks in 2 feet to 24 feet around channels.
Stripers and Hybrid stripers were brought to the boat in the last week at both Lake Palestine and Richland Chambers. Clients at Richland Chambers, Dick Terry and Mr. Laughton caught and kept about 38 white Bass and a 7.1 lb. Bass was caught on lizards on watermelon texas rigs. A few 3 lbers. were also hitting.
Yesterday at Lake Palestine stripers were caught on cutbait in about 18 feet of water up to 9.4 lber. and a 7 lber. Also whites were hitting rattle traps and many catfish were brought to the boat in the good eating size range about 2-3 lbers.
We are Guiding for Catfish and Stripers on Lake Palestine along with Black Bass. Also we are taking trips to Richland Chambers Lake for white Bass and Hybrid Stripers.
