ultralight spinning reels and shiners or minnows (depending where ya from)
fished under standup corks, small splitshot, and regular crappie hook

Report:
Left the bass alone this weekend and took my wife and two young children crappie fishing, and let me tell you it was awesome and hectic trying to keep up with two kids and a wife steadly pulling in big slabs. Fished about 2-3 feet deep in water that was 4-6ft deep, about 10ft. off the banks.
