Report:
first let me tell you all, I am a BANK fishermen (no boat) and mostly a smallmouth fishermen, hopefully you don't toss me for that !!! LOL I fished a small local pond here in Ohio with my 8 yr old daughter, Jessica. the water is still COLD but figured I'd give it a try!! thought about fishing the wind blown rocky shore line for 2 reasons, 1. the wind blowing in always brings the smaller fish to that shore which in turn brings the bass!! 2. the rocks hold heat from the sun and i figured a 1 or degree difference in water temp can and will make a BIG difference. started out fishing a a small 4inch gold BPS jerkbait tight to the bank ( a non suspending model) i don't care for the suspending baits everyone is in love with, i have better luck with one that will pop back to the surface after a few seconds on the pause. Believe it or not I've caught Largemouth on top here in Ohio in 50 degree water on warm sunny days !!!
i managed one FAT 14 inch largemouth , NOT bad for the first fish of the year and had one other fish hit right as the bait was coming out of the water. Scared me to death and missed him !!! i then decided to slow down a bit and flip a tube into the rocks, tried a white strike king tube for about an hour with no luck. so i decided to dig out my NEW Strike King Bleeding tubes in the watermelon with bleeding tips and give them a try. I almost immediately broke off a Big Ohio Largemouth, so i retied another and fished on down the shore had another hit set the hook and the war was on !! i quickly realized i had a good fish on so i yelled for my daughter to give me a hand , i fought the fish close enough and she lipped it first try. which is very impressive considering she is 8 yrs old !! it was a beauty , i got 2 quick pictures and a good measurement and released the fish !! it was a 22 inch largemouth, which is my biggest in about 10 years. i also landed one other 13 inch fish on the tube and Jessica caught her FIRST largemouth on the jerkbait, it was a HUGE 11 inch fish !!!

Tightlines to you ALL
Brian
