Report:
Our club had a night time tournament on Lake Bomoseen. We began fishing at midnight Friday and fished until noon Saturday. Conditions were calm.
Arrived at boat ramp and noticed some "mermaids" out for a night frolic (before they were chased out by the police). Once the 11 boats were launched we waited for our drawn numbers to be called. We pulled number 4 and headed across the lake.
With calm water we began with buzzbaits and boated our 1st fish by 12:15 AM. We continued this pattern casting to the shore in the dark then listening for buzzbait churn across the surface. Several small fish were caught and we moved.
The night quiet was shattered by a woman's voice calling from a lakeside camp, "Are you boys fishing in a tournament?" Buzzbaits chugging across the water was her answer.
Around daybreak we were getting tired. While one snoozed the other beat the water. Fewer fish were caught.
At 6 AM we began hitting docks hard. Using a tube bait I caught a keeper largemouth. Several rock bass were caught as well. We moved to a dock where a boy was casting half a bluegill as bait. He informed us that there was a monster under the family boat. We gave him his spot and scooted along. At the next dock the tube bait attracted a smallmouth and at 2 lbs. he was a keeper.
At 10 AM we saw two 4 lb'rs on a nest. We casted at the pair for 45 minutes. My partner was using a scent filled spinner bait and I was flipping a scent dipped black salamander rigged weightless. Finally, one of the fish struck the spinner bait and we boated it.
Though our bag was not very big, there were a couple of big ones. The largest was 20 lbs.! Bomoseen holds some big bass.
