#1 Mepp Thunder bug (bluegill slayer) Chunk-o-raw-Shrimp on a #6 hook (catfish getter-done)

Report:
I only spend 9 weeks a year in Alabama, so I have a lot to learn about fishing down here. This evening I headed down to the lake with my spinners and some raw shrimp. The little palm sized bluegill would not leave the Thunderbug Mepps alone so I switched over to big chunk (3/8 oz) of raw shrimp on a #6 hook. I like a big chunk of bait because it cast better and only a big customer can get his mouth around it - and that's just what happened - out about 30 yards I got some light hits so I stopped and let the fish nibble, then slowly brought it in. Again the nibbling got serious and I stopped. At this point I needed to start cranking then he took off. This guy stayed deep and I worked him into shore and was proud to see a good sized catfish - he was about 20" and maybe 3 pounds? I'm not sure. Normally I catch and release, but this guy was the full meal deal so I gave him to some meat fishers.
