Learning to use a fly rod

me and my fishing buddy had decided we wanted to learn to fly fish. so we bought us a fly rod apiece and decided we would practice at home in the yard for a day or two then try them on the water. we tried them at our lunchtime spot at work. with a small brim or two and thought it was time for the big river. so after work we take off we had been there for about 15 min when we spotted a root system off an old tree laying in the water so i started casting around it. as soon as the fly hit the water a nice little brim hit released it fly hit water brim hit fly they were hitting faster than i could cast so i called my buddy over and as i was taking a fish off he would cast and catch as he released i would cast and catch this went on for about 25 to 30 min we prob caught about 15 to 25 fish apiece that day. what a better way to learn a fly rod.
