This is a recipe for a good stink bait that I was given by an old friend a while back.
Ingredients
1 package of chicken livers (size can vary based on the amount of bait you need)
1 package of cheese cubes (optional)
1 bar of ivory soap
1 stocking
Directions
Cut off a piece of the stocking and stick a few chicken livers (and cheese cubes) in it. The number you put in there can vary depending on how large you want the bait to be. Next, tie off both ends of the stocking. Rub the ivory soap all over it. Lay it out in the sun for a few hours. The ivory soap speeds up the spoiling process of the meat and cheese. After that you will have your stink bait. When I am finished making it, I usually place the bait in ziploc bags and freeze them. That way, when you are ready to go fishing, you can grab them and go. Freezing them helps minimize the smell to you, but also helps seal the smell in for the catfish. Hook it on a treble or work hook through the stocking to hold it on, and it will thaw once in the water and also work to chum it.
