So, we just bought this great little house on this great little pond in this great little town. I've fished quite often as a kid, but never really got too into it as an adult. Being professional musicians, both my wife and I are kinda what you might call "city slickers". Anyway, the house is on a gorgeous pond, so you gotta fish the damn thing, Right? Well, winter passes and I fly out there in a canoe as soon as the ice breaks.
Turns out the pond is about 12 feet at it's deepest. Most of the pond is about 5-6 ft. With a small island in the middle. I thought I'd just toss out some rusty old lures with this piece of junk rod and reel. I'm catching yellow perch and small pickeral, all about one lb or less. So, that's cool, good enough for me. It was like this all summer. Yellow Perch and Pickeral. Maybe the rare crappie or sunny and nothing over 1.lb.
So..obviously I hook up with some good light tackle gear and I'm out there regularly, escaping from my wife and pretty much hiding from the world in my canoe. Then August comes. I pull in a small Large Mouth. Then another. About 1 lb each. Then, I make what I thought was a bad cast to the shore's edge and BAM I hit a 3 lb large mouth bass. I freaked. From Aug to October I was slammin' bass from 2 to 7 lbs. I learned a lot that year and now I'm changing my rig, baits, technique...all that. Maybe if I keep staring at all this ice and snow it will melt sooner.
