A stocked pond makes a lot of fun!
I took a weeks vacation this week mainly because I had to or loose it. Bass fishing at the lakes have been slow with 100 degree weather upon us here in southwestern Oklahoma. My dad has a friend that had invited us out to his private pond which he said it was stocked with bass and catfish. The owner just had two request 1-Catch and Release which is not a problem we always do. 2-Watch out for the Bull, I did not know if I liked that last request or not but we went anyway. The pond looked to be about 4 acres with a large creek on the north side. When we got out of the pickup we saw a cottonmouth snake crawling through the tall grass by the pond. I was beginning to think that between the snakes and the possibility of the bull that this fishing trip should be nixed. As many times before I was wrong. My dad led off using his old top water plugs. About his third cast he hauled in a 4.5 Largemouth Bass. About 10 minutes later he caught a 7.3 pound Largemouth. I knew I was going to have to get with it to do some catching up and then it happened, BAM! I had one on the line using a Rapala fat rap shallow diver. It fought really hard but I knew something was wrong the second it started to fight, it was a 12.5 pound channel catfish. I liked to have never got it in it twisted and fought harder then any bass I have ever caught. I thought my dad was going to bust a gut laughing when he seen it was a catfish. We ended up catching 16 bass and 1 catfish in 2 hours and also we never seen the bull which was alright with me too.
