To make my first posting short and sweet I must say I am in heaven this side of heaven. We, my family, have just recently been offered by my Godparents to stay in their cabin, which is located on 20 acres of pure bliss. I say this because it has the perfect blend of trees and pasture land and best of all a tank and a spring fed pond.
The pond has a system going with the perfect vegetation and plenty of shade for some pretty monstrous bass to cool off in with the Texas heat comin on.
My six-year-old son and my seven-year-old daughter have both been introduced to big bass fishing in the last two weeks and they both have landed really large beauts. Needless to say, they are hooked.
The amazing aspect is not just the fact that at six and seven they have both landed bass in excess of five pounds but how my daughter caught her biggie.
We were short a pole so I found a nice stick that had fallen from a near-by tree. I attached five feet plus worth of ten-pound line and a simple hook to the stick. We were using dead night crawlers (I accidentally froze them overnight) for bait that day. Despite the lack of what I would prefer as adequate bait we caught and released about a dozen bass and tons of beefy perch as well. We stopped counting at around 55 fish total for a period of three hours in the morning.
The awesome part of our experience came when my daughter first placed her simple hook tied to a stick into the water. Almost immediately a very large largemouth hit and she literally dragged it onto the shore with me helping using a net. This fish weighed easily over five pounds and I, thankfully, have a good picture of my son struggling to hold it for his sister. She still will not hold the fish but she definitely has no problem with catching them!!!!
