Crash n' Burn Stripers (Add to Favorites)

Many of you don't know this but there is a 3rd lake to Castaic. It is not open to the public. Its is owned by the Los Angeles Water and Power. But with a close friend knowing the security guard I get a chance go once in a while. This lake is almost sc

Last year in November 2004 I was offered a chance to fish the 3rd lake of Castaic. I had know idea there was a 3rd lake. I was told that I needed at least 10lb test. I only use 6-8lb in the upper lake and in the lagoon so I knew these fish had to be bigger here. As me and a close friend walk along the path that goes around the lake the sun started to go behind the mountains. Suddenly we heard this loud crashing noise down at the shore. A boil my friend says. Yah a boil from hell! There was at least 50-100 Striped bass chasing a school of shad to the bank of the lake. We ran down as fast as we could and threw in these storm shad baits. It got bit, ripped and chewed in 1 second. The Stripers would hit it and peel your drag to the deep. We followed this shad wherever they went. I got bit all evening long and only landed 5 fish. I lost like 40. No joke. These bass were so vicious it wasn't even funny! It sounded like thunder down there. Amazing fishing. Never seen something like that ever. Oh yeah and we both hooked huge largemouth the following morning on plastic worms. The smallest fish was 3lbs. Catch my drift on that. No small fish, all big. We lost a 15lb bass. I bet you the state record bass is in there. I'm the only one that has access to this lake. If you live in the San Fernando Valley or in Castaic, call me. (818)201-5789. I will take you out if you promise to tell no-one.
