First Impressions of a New Angler

Touring Clear Lake and Lake Berryessa for rentals and cabins/camping
First Impressions are important. Based on mine, I would chose Berryessa over Clearlake without a second thought.
Mike and I drove up to visit friends in Lower Lake and then headed for room and boat rental Id arranged off of a website. Mike has been fishing for years while i have only recently required the need to throw money at water for fun. When we arrived we looked about the place before checking in. Well, I wont go into details but the place just wasn't much to look at. We wandered down by the dock thinking well, its the fishing that's important. But after spending a few minutes looking over the dilapidated and patched dock and the near abandoned condition of the one boat that was tied there, we started having second thoughts. That's when Mike started pointing out the stiff gusting wind and the high level of chop and whitecaps on the lake. After more weighing of pros n cons we chose to look elsewhere.
An hour or so of driving brought us to Lake Berryessa. It looked a lot bigger, the water was quite calm surfaced, wind levels were nominal.. Wow this is nice.. the first place we tried was Spanish Flat Resort. They didn't have a cabin avail that day but we were very impressed with everything we saw. near new cabins, very clean and well maintained grounds a great store with friendly staff. the boat rental rates were reasonable and the watercraft all looked clean and shiny. Fishing Reports made the lake look even more attractive with trout, 3 kinds of bass, catfish and kokanee.
We are planning a return trip for next month. I can hardly wait!
