Wisconsin Fishing Trip (Add to Favorites)

Fishing trip to Northeastern Wisconsin and some of the fishing we done with site seeing

Back in the sixties, I went with some folks on a fishing trip to northeastern Wisconsin. We fished some streams outside of Tomahawk. We stayed in a log cabin, it had all of the modern conveniences so we really weren't roughing it. The cabin, came with a boat with a 7hp motor and oars. For you that have never been in that part of the country, it is real pretty. A lot of wildlife there are black bear, deer, bald eagles beavers etc. We brought night crawlers with us jigs, spinners, spoons and other tackle. We bought some minnows to use with our jigs. We caught some perch, walleye and Northern Pike. The one method we used was a red and white Daredevil spoon. An old timer, told us how to slap the spoon and we tried that and we had great luck. We would cast out the Daredevil spoon, just before the spoon hit the water, we would jerk the line a little and when the spoon landed it would slap the water. That slapping sound, attracted the Northern Pike and wham they hit like crazy. I don't know if any of you have caught northerns, but to me they are one of the most fierce fighting fish there are in fresh water rivers and lakes. One morning, I took the boat out real early just as the sun was coming up.
The morning steam was coming up off the river, I drifted around a curve, on my right hand side there was a weed bed in the river. Standing in the weed bed, was a real pretty doe and fawn drinking the water. I just held my breath, drifted by them, the doe looked up but stayed there she didn't bolt. I didn't have a camera but I still have that picture burnt in my mind. The bald eagles were flying over head and going to their nests at the top of the trees and those nests are huge. I really look back on that fishing trip with a lot of fond memories wish I go go back in time sometimes.
