A 16 man fishing trip, and memories that will last a lifetime.
I am fortunate to have a lot of good friends and a lot of good memories, this is one of them...16 of us rented 2 houseboats on Dale Hollow Lake in Tenn. One evening when we were sitting on the back of the two boats tied together, one of the guys decided to play a prank. Since the two boats were tied side by side, that left a 6' gap between them under the deck, these boats were like barges with a 3" overhang. This guy went quietly to the front of the boats without any of us knowing, the fronts of the houseboats were tied off on shore. It was just after dark and was now pitch black, we were having a few cool ones, listening to some music, and telling stories of other trips. The guy in front of the boat strips down to his tighty-whiteys and gets quietly into the water. He makes his way between the boats in the water, under the deck where no one can see him. It just so happens that we had a lantern hanging out over the back to attract some bait fish. Well...all of a sudden we see an eerie glow in the water and we wonder what the heck it could be. By the way, the guy in his tighty-whiteys goes 300 lbs! All of a sudden he pushes off of the bottom of the lake and comes up to the surface with his arms raised and yells RAWWWWW! We all just about had heart attacks! I was leaning back on a chair holding a cool one and nearly fell over backwards! You have never lived until you are deep in the hills of Tennessee (Deliverance country) and a 300 lb man in his tighty-whiteys jumps up out of the water and scares the bajeebers out of you!
We caught tons of fish that week including a 1 1/2 pound crappie and a 32" Walleye. Those were the days..looking forward to many more good times with the same group. We all used to work together and we have been fishing together every year for over 21 years. We are all spread out now as far as work goes, but we kept the friendship going. Work will come and go...good friends are forever!
