More in the boat than the finger.

The fishing was just too good to go to the hospital now.
This happened a few years ago but my wife reminds me of it every time I have a good day fishing. It wasn't funny at the time but it often reminds me of how dedicated fisherman are sometimes. I was fishing by myself on Goat Rock lake, Georgia in April. I was catching a few small Largemouth but nothing to brag about. As I was trolling the banks, I saw a small shallow cove with several blown down trees laying in the water. I slowly moved in to the cove and tied on a bone/craw colored crankbait. The first cast was right on the bank along side the first blow down. I started reeling it in when it hit a tree limb. I paused it for just a second and started cranking again. BAM! The fish nailed it and I worked it back to the boat without too much problem. It was a beautiful Largemouth about 5 pounds. I quickly pulled the crankbait out of her mouth and put her back. For about the next 10 minutes, every cast ended with the same result. I couldn't believe that I was catching 5 and 6 pound bass on every cast. "This has to be too good to be true". IT WAS! I retied the crankbait just to be cautious and threw back in. In just a few short handle turns, I was reeling in another 5 pounder. I reached down and pulled it in the boat. I was holding it with one hand when it started flopping all over the deck of the boat. The first thing I felt was the treble hook going in my little finger followed by more pain as the fish continued to flop around. Finally, the fish broke free or should I say the fish straightened out the split ring. I released the fish unharmed but I had a treble hook in my finger, a broken crankbait, and worst of all, a dilemma. I tried unsuccessfully for about five minutes to get it out but it was buried pretty good. I finally cut the one hook that wasn't in my finger and wrapped tape around the whole thing so it wouldn't get snagged on anything. The fishing slowed down a bit but I still pulled a few more big fish out. I fished for about another hour and a half before I headed to the hospital. That's another story all by itself.
