Going To Iowa (Without Leaving Wisconsin)

Good weather and a great crowd make this day more than just "fair" for Curt as he visits the Iowa County Fair in western Wisconsin!
9-1-02
Well, September is finally here - and what better way to start off the new month than with yet another fishing seminar. This seminar will conclude my 2002 schedule of fairs and festivals. It has been a tough summer, especially with all of the seminars and tournaments I have participated in. I can literally count the “fishing free” weekends I have had this summer on one hand!
The final seminar placed me in Iowa. Now, I do not mean the state of Iowa, I am referring to Iowa County located on the western side of Wisconsin (about an hour from Minnesota). I spoke on one of the stages for the 142nd Iowa County Fair, located in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. It was a fine little fair, and offered a variety of entertainment for everybody.
I was excited, though, as I had one of the most diverse audience groups of the year. I had children, middle-agers, and seniors - all under the same tent. The crowd was attentive and appreciative of the presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed the group, as the kids were eager to volunteer and participate, and the adults were full of questions and comments.
I also had the opportunity to apply topics from both of my seminar topics (adult and children’s), including structure fishing, color patterns, and product applications, as well as the kid’s favorites - smelling the Kick’n Bass fish attractants and helping me with my spinnerbait demos. I was also able to give out a complimentary Fish-n-Spin (panfish spinnerbait) to each of the kids who helped me out on stage. Fish-n-Spin has become a great partner of mine in my “off the water” fishing opportunities. They not only provided me with samples for this seminar, but they have also donated a case of product for our summer kid’s fishing program that I write about quite frequently in this column. I was not in full attendance at the last kid’s event (held yesterday - 8/31/02) due to a wedding - but I know that all of the kids who were there received a lure from Fish-n-Spin, and some of them had good success on the bluegill throwing the lure. I urge you to all go and check out their awesome line of panfish spinnerbaits (they work well on smaller bass, too) on the www.fish-n-spin.com web site. It is worth the peek just to read (and see photos) of some of the testimonies from this quality line of mini-spinnerbaits. We will also be including two spinnerbaits for each of the kids in their final prize packages (for those who qualify).
Now we move on to that final kid’s fishing tournament being held on the 14th of this month. We will be taking the kids out on Tichigan Lake in our boats for a true bass fishing tournament. We are getting ready and have all of our prize packages put together. Many different companies are donating wonderful prizes for the kids.
