It all hapened about a year ago when my my father, Brother and i took our anual visit to our farm situated on the Vaal River , well we set up camp and of course cast out our lines all going for barbel ,( Catfish ) . Well my father uses a fat platanna ( Frog ) brother used a bird he had shot with his pellet gun and i had used a crab that i had cought under a rock . Seing the Vaal is a pretty wide river at the point where we were fishing , and our baits were above average size and me being the youngest meant that i had the privelage of rowing the baits in . While rowing i nothiced a 2 litre coke bottle floating in the middle of the river and to my surprise it was floating against the flow of the rivers current . Me being curious at nature rowed up to the bottle and saw a thin black rope atached to the top of it , so i decided to try pull it up and as i lifted the bottle i fealt the weight and the bottle shot out of my hand and took off at great spped under the water , it was like that scene from jaws where the Great White drags the drums under water . I neadless to say got the fright of my life and began to row back to shore . When i got back to shore the bottle had reappeared and i dared my brother ten rand to go have a look at what was on the end of that bottle , my dad convinced him to take the .22 rifle with hom in the canoe in case it was too big . When my brother reached the bottle and began to tug on it the fishes force almost tipped the canoe but he managed to keep his grip nor me or dad could believe the size of the head that lifted out the water , my brother swiftly managed to drag the fish to the bank and it weighed in at 62 pounds , 31 kilograms . The only logica lsolution to how this fish go hooked is that a local must have left a night line out and the barbel must have broke the line only to be left attached to the bottle by the thick black trace .
