A couple of days back when it was hot, I was fishing off the dock with a live shinner about 100 yards out in a hole around 17 feet deep. I almost gave up on catching anything when the clicker started making a noise... Tick...Tick... I looked back thinking maybe something made the shinner nervous. I watched, then it started going faster and faster. I gave it about 30 seconds to make sure it had a good line. I clicked the reel over and watch the line rise out of the water until I felt tension. Then I reeled it in fast as I snatched it as hard as I could, hoping the 12 pound line wouldn't break. It felt like it hit a log as I was reeling it in, and all the sudden, it nearly broke my wrist and the line all at the same time! It was pulling the line out in short nasty bursts. I got a good grip and started pulling this fighting mass of muscle in. I got about 30 yards of line in, and it felt like my arm was going to fall off, so I called my cousin out of the house where he was sleeping. He got the boat and went out to get some line on the monster. We got a full spool on the beast, and he kept fighting for another 10 minutes in the deep hole. Finally he came to the top -- the entire 43 pounds of soft shell turtle, hooked in the back part of the shell. No wonder he could pull so hard! We muscled the turtle in the boat and got a good picture of it. Then we took it off to the market to sell. bubba 15
