Hi.. my name is Al and I live in the city...bad thing. I love fishing, of all species. Ill start off by saying that it is most important to think about the time of year and the food type available. The fish are positioned at different debths at different times of the year, because of the water tempertures which change according to the time of year. Food sourse is extremely important..because fish get used to eating a specific type of food and can be reluctant to eating food other than the usual. Therefore, if you are fishing for bass along the shore lines and it is mid June, which means it is the right temperature for frogs and toads to be around, and frogs are around the shorelines and lilly pads, then this would suggest that the bass could very well be eating frogs as a regular diet. If u cast a Bass Rat or some sort of frog imitation, then you could very well be about to get lots of fish. Fish of all species tend to eat more of what they were usually eating. You can very well catch fish on minnow imatations, but you will get MORE fish on the regular food type that they are eating. Pretend that you are a fish and you are just sitting there watching a minnow imatation go by [although you do not know that it is a minow imatation, you believe its a minnow] but, your usual diet is frogs and crayfish....are you going to take a run at that minnow?? I guess it depends on how hungry you are. Normally you would not run at the minnow because you are used to a certain reliable diet...the frog or the cray fish. In a way its like humans...when someone has the opportunity to move away from home...some will but a lot are happy with where they are and feel no need to change. So choosing a type of bait which is in great abundance will result in lots of fish. A type of food that is in great abundance will become the fish's diet. Another small tip is that when you are fishing with Bass Rats [frog imatations] try casting the lure onto the shore and slowly jitter the frog into the water. This is a killer presentation. I found this way of fishing for bass by accident. A while back, my casts were not that accurate and I would some times cast right into the bush or grass along the water line, and I would pull my frog into the water upset about the terrible cast and I got a huge splashing attack from a giant largemouth. This happened as soon as my lure hit the water. So I casted in the same spot and then in different spots along the shore....nothing!! I started thinking on what I did right when I got that hit, and I remembered how I casted onto shore first. I went back and casted on to shore and I jitered my frog into the water off the land and I got another agressive hit....it was a small one but its a fish and it means that I was doing something right. I casted on to shore all over the lake and pulled slowly my frog into the water, and it was heaven...I will never forget it. Fish after Fish. There were some casts when there was nothing but mosts casts got fish using this presentation. I then casted all over again but this time I just casted onto the water....not much at all!!! I tried this presentation on many different lakes and it worked like a charm. The key is to make your presentation look as realistic as possible. In this case, I worked my Bass Rat like a real frog or mouse. If a frog is a major diet of a Bass, then this also means that the Bass know the frogs habits and the Bass are used to seeing the frog jump into the water from land.....this is where most strikes occur. Fish react on instinct, so if a fish is used to seeing frogs jump into the water and then the fish eat the frog, then it has been understood that frogs are good, and the next time something falls into the water like that from shore, it will become a meal. But when a frog is swimming around in the open...the fish will be less likly to eat it, because the fish is not used to seeing this....again it very well may be eaten but more fish will be more likly to eat more frogs after they jump into the water because the fish are USED to this.
So remember fishermen..... look at the greatest abundance of food, and make your presentation look as natural as possible
Well... good luck fishing , I hope u found the tips helpful !!
