I've hooked into many big bass in my life, and quite a few over 5 pounds. You may say, "Only 5 pounds?" but I don’t get that many opportunities and I'm only 14 years old. When I was 8 years old, I was fishing on a little Kentucky farm pond known for humongous crappie and big catfish (not for its bass). I was fishing with my uncle and he set me up with a bobber and a live minnow. About 3 minutes later, I hooked into and caught an 8 pound Largemouth Bass. I took the bass by myself and started walking, extremely close to the bank, to get my picture taken, and I tripped over a rock, and the fish went flying into the water. It hurt me real bad.
Another time when I was 12 years old, I caught a 7 pounder and a 6 pounder in the same week and bad luck again struck me both times. Finally, March 2000, I was fishing for catfish with live worms and I had only caught a ten-pound blue catfish that morning while my friend kept bringing in a load. I was getting tired and then that's when I hooked into a nice bass that put up an amazing fight. I got it close to the dock when my best friend lipped the fish with authority, and brought it up. I was so glad that this time I was able to land it with the help of my friend, and the fish that I caught that day is hanging on my bedroom wall. This time, bad luck didn't get to me.
I guess the moral of the story is "Fish with a friend, they'll come in handy."
