Me and my cousin were just about to leave the small lake we were fishing, when I hooked into a nice fish. However, before I could get a glimpse of it, it snapped my line. My cousin threw his popper in, and the pickerel immediately hit. The fish must have shook my jig while being reeled in. Somehow, the fish managed to swallow my cousin's popper and was stuck in its throat. Consequentially, we threw the fish back, popper in throat and all. About 2 hours later we came back to the spot. I was now using a blue lizard when I suddenly got a hit. I was reeling it in quickly to recast when the fish hit. It skipping across the top of the water. Now, with about half a lizard left, I threw it back in and once again the fish struck. I set the hook and as it was jumping it spit the popper from its throat, sailed threw the air into a sewer drain that leads out into the ocean, and off my line. I totaled the fish hitting 5 times, 3 of them with a popper lodged in its throat. After this experience I truly realized the incredible aggression of pickerel.
