I love night fishing. But since 9-11, it had been banned until a few weeks ago. Finally able to go, I got to the lake just after dark. I missed a few fish, then had a good shot. I had him on my line for a few seconds and was just going to lip him, then BANG! What a shot. I have heard about small fish being taken by bigger fish on the way in, but this was no fish! It was a snapping turtle. Maybe 12 to 15 lbs!
I pulled with him a few minutes but didn’t want to mess with those jaws. I picked up a rock about the size of a baseball and hit him in the shell. He let go. I got my 2 lb bass and spinnerbait back. The turtle just moved on down the lake.
